Hi all – please find below and attached message and social guidance on President Trump urging the Tennessee Valley Authority to keep a Kentucky coal power plant in operation. This guidance highlights
how this falls in line with the Trump administration’s pattern of trying to tip the scales in favor of dirty energy, which includes Trump’s nomination of Andrew Wheeler to lead the EPA. Please use this guidance as you see fit, and let us know if you have questions.

-
Once again, President Trump is attempting to tip the scales in favor of his allies in the big polluter industry, continuing his administration’s quest to prop up failing coal plants that can’t compete with renewable
sources of energy.
-
Trump is urging the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to keep open a dirty coal power plant in Kentucky - with direct ties to notorious coal baron Bob Murray - despite earlier TVA findings that it no longer made sense
to keep the plant up and running.
-
This comes as no surprise, considering Trump’s pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is former Murray Energy lobbyist Andrew Wheeler, who during his time at EPA so far has been attempting to roll
back protections limiting carbon pollution from coal plants that’s contributing to climate change and putting communities across the country at risk.
-
Trump’s remarks come on the heels of Wheeler’s confirmation hearing, where he misled the American people about his close ties to industry and his work to carry out the wish list of his former boss, Bob Murray.
-
And Wheeler isn’t the only former industry lobbyist President Trump is
trying to install in his cabinet. Trump recently nominated David Bernhardt to lead the Department of Interior. Bernhardt, much like Wheeler, spent decades working for and receiving compensation from industry polluters,
including NRG Energy, Sempra Energy, and the Independent Petroleum Association of America.
-
The reality is Trump’s dirty energy cronies are struggling to compete with cheaper, cleaner energy sources in the free market. So Trump and his deep pocketed contributors like Murray want to manipulate the market
so that Americans end up breathing dirtier air and spending more on expensive, dirty energy.
-
Trump is also ignoring the fact that the clean energy economy has created far more jobs with nearly
3.2 million American jobs
in solar, wind, energy efficiency, clean cars, and other clean technologies. And clean energy jobs
outnumber fossil fuel jobs in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
-
The American people won’t stand for Trump and Wheeler’s blatant disregard for public health. States, cities, and businesses
overwhelmingly support the lifesaving protections Wheeler’s trying to dismantle and are
continuing to move forward with clean energy solutions that fulfill America’s Pledge to act on climate.
-
As Wheeler’s nomination moves toward a confirmation vote by the full Senate, [STATE]
is counting on [SENATOR] to listen to [HIS/HER]
constituents and vote against his nomination.
