Hi Everyone,

With the U.S. Senate moments away from bringing the Green New Deal to a contentious vote and a government rep. is making floor speeches with photos of Aquaman, Luke Skywalker and velociraptors, now seems like a good time to share that WRI is hosting a bipartisan conversation how to advance climate action on Capitol Hill.

Held on Monday, April 8 in Washington, DC the event will feature Axios reporter Amy Harder interviewing Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL), who leads the newly created House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and former Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), co-founder of the Climate Solutions Caucus. That will be followed by a panel discussion of diverse experts from Union of Concerned Scientists, Sierra Club, Resources for the Future and WRI.

Would you please forward this invite to interested friends, colleagues and networks in the DC area? Thank you!

Cheers,

Rhys

Climate change has reemerged as a top priority on Capitol Hill -- and the conversation has matured from whether to take action to how. In the past year we have seen two Republican-sponsored bills on climate change and the emergence of the Green New Deal, sparking a lively debate about the future of climate action in Congress in the context of economic and social policy. At the same time, climate change is poised to be front-and-center in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Join World Resources Institute on April 8 for a dynamic bipartisan conversation on how to advance policies in the United States that respond to the scale of the climate challenge. Axios reporter Amy Harder will moderate a conversation with Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL), who leads the newly created House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, and former Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), co-founder of the Climate Solutions Caucus.

This conversation will be followed by a panel of energy and climate experts that will dive deeper on what Congress can do in the near-term to shift the U.S. electricity system toward cleaner sources of power.

Panelists include:

  • Rachel Cleetus, Policy Director, Union of Concerned Scientists
  • Mary Anne Hitt, Director, Beyond Coal Campaign, Sierra Club
  • Dan Lashof, Director, World Resources Institute U.S.
  • Karen Palmer, Senior Fellow and Director, Future of Power Initiative, Resources for the Future (invited)
  • Amy Harder, Reporter, Axios (moderator)

The panel will be followed by a Q&A session. The event is open to the public and members of the media.
