Thanks for these great resources, Julia.
As mentioned on this morning's CDP call, here are some refreshers and sample content on our January report on potential U.S. oil and gas expansion over the coming decades. This is exactly the future Trump is driving us towards, which means full-on climate disaster:
Report: http://priceofoil.org/drilling-towards-disaster
Key Findings
- Projected new oil and gas development through 2050 could unleash up to 120 billion tons of new carbon pollution, equivalent to the lifetime emissions of nearly 1,000 coal plants.
- The carbon pollution already in existing oil and gas fields and coal mines would take us well past 1.5ºC – so by unlocking new oil and gas development, the Trump Administration is doubling down on climate disaster.
- Meeting our climate goals and ensuring equity and a just transition require a careful wind-down of existing oil and gas production and a stop to new infrastructure – today's executives orders are doing the opposite and adding fuel to the fire.
Sample Tweets / Posts
- BREAKING: Trump just announced new actions to make it more difficult for states & local communities to reject fossil fuel infrastructure – precisely at a time when we know we must quickly cut our extraction and use of fossil fuels. #PeopleOverPolluters http://priceofoil.org/drilling-towards-disaster
- Trump’s executive orders are the latest example of his dangerous, Big Oil-friendly agenda that has the U.S. on track to account for 60% of global growth in fossil fuel production between 2019 & 2030. #PeopleOverPolluters Learn more: http://priceofoil.org/drilling-towards-disaster
- Under Trump’s new actions, the U.S. is doubling down on climate disaster. Instead of promoting oil & gas, we must ensure a #JustTransition for industry workers & phase out existing fossil fuel projects to achieve our climate goals. #PeopleOverPolluters http://priceofoil.org/drilling-towards-disaster
