Good morning,

CAP has a column up this morning that examines how U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt has abused his executive authority to undermine Congress and the law of the land. Titled The Bernhardt Doctrine: Dismissing Rules and Dodging Oversight, the paper notes that Bernhardt has spent his time at DOI pushing forward policies that strip away public land protections, reverse progress on climate change, and undermine transparency laws.

The column comes as Secretary Bernhardt plans President Donald Trump’s personal July 4 celebration that will spend millions of dollars featuring military aircraft and possibly even tanks rolling through the streets.

As both @Interior’s deputy secretary and secretary, @SecBernhardt has pushed a destructive anti-conservation agenda with a flagrant disregard for the coequal branches of U.S. government. #StopBernhardt Read here: https://www.americanprogress.org/?p=471720

.@SecBernhardt’s leadership style resembles his boss, @POTUS who regularly dismisses opposition from the legislative and judicial branches and, ultimately, diminishes the oversight role that the public expects the government to serve. https://www.americanprogress.org/?p=471720

New @amprog analysis finds that @SecBernhardt has used his executive authority at the expense of the American public as well as to undermine Congress and the law of the land. #StopBernhardt Read more here: https://www.americanprogress.org/?p=471720

From a Federal Records Act violation investigation, to an attempt to use executive authority to dilute transparency laws, it is clear that @SecBernhardt believes he is above the law. #StopBernhardt Read more: https://www.americanprogress.org/?p=471720
