Attached please find a 1-page sign-on letter demanding that EPA set a strict drinking water standard for the rocket fuel component perchlorate, of 2 ppb (the same as the Massachusetts standard). EPA proposed a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 56 ppb, nearly 4 times their 15 ppb Lifetime Health Advisory. You will recall that this is the first time EPA has used the unregulated contaminant listing and regulatory provisions in the Safe Drinking Water Act since it was amended in 1996, showing how broken the law is.

California has proposed a public health goal for perchlorate of 1 ppb, and our extensive comments (our senior scientist Dr. Jen Sass can provide you a draft copy if you want one) suggest an MCL Goal of 0 ppb based on a lot of new information.
