Hi all,
Thursday marks the 14th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina making landfall in Louisiana. It’s also Environmental Justice Day, and this year, August 29 has Tropical Storm
Dorian bringing heavy rains to Puerto Rico, reminding us of the devastation Hurricane Maria brought to the island two years ago. Climate change disproportionately affects black & brown communities by exacerbating extreme weather like hurricanes.
Before Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017, we already knew that climate change increased storm surge, extreme rainfall and potential wind speed. But the science has come
even further since then. In response to Harvey, several climate change attribution studies came out identifying the direct influence of climate change on the storm’s extreme rainfall — meaning scientists can now pinpoint the impact of climate change on specific
storms.
FOR TOMORROW 8/29: We’re sharing a video summarizing the latest
science, featuring Markeya Thomas of Climate Signals. Please pass along to your networks, and thank you in advance.

WATCH: When Hurricane Harvey hit two years ago, scientists had already established that sea level rise, warmer air, and warmer oceans — all driven by #climatechange — made
hurricane damages worse. What have they learned since then? http://bit.ly/2ZBylfw
