Happy (fiscal) new year, everyone!
Today (Sept 30) marks the end of FY19. Last Friday, Trump signed a seven-week continuing resolution into law, which pushes back the possibility of another government shutdown until Nov. 21. Meanwhile, the Senate
Appropriations Committee just released their Commerce-Science-Justice bill containing NOAA’s proposed FY20 budget. Along with the House CJS bill passed in June, the numbers look pretty good for NOAA with several critical ocean programs seeing a boost in FY20.
Ocean Conservancy is using the coincidence of these two happenings to share stories of the importance of NOAA’s programs to coastal communities and to create pressure to pass a CJS bill with the highest possible
funding levels for ocean programs.
We’ll be tweeting all week using the hashtag
#TheMoreYouNOAA and we invite you to add your voice. A social media and messaging toolkit can be
found here, and a recent OC blog post with more information about the budget situation and NOAA can be
found here.
