Message of the Week: December 2, 2019
As members of Congress attend the
2019 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25) this week, extreme weather is impacting communities and nations worldwide,
underscoring the need for swift and meaningful climate action. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense, with science clearly showing that climate change is driving
these patterns.
Thankfully, U.S. Representatives Donald McEachin, Deb Haaland, Debbie Dingell, Earl Blumenauer, Paul Tonko, and Chellie Pingree - along with over 150 co-sponsors -
introduced the
100% Clean Economy Act of 2019, a bill that would transition the United
States to a 100% clean economy by 2050 and require net zero carbon pollution.
Reorient Target Messaging
-
The American people have made it clear they want bold solutions to address the climate crisis. While the Trump administration is failing to meet its global commitment to act on climate, leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives
have stepped up to hold the administration accountable. Last week, they proposed bold climate solutions that will put our country on a path towards achieving a 100% clean economy by 2050.
-
[Senator] must listen to [his/her] constituents and support action similar to that taken by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to address the climate
crisis and create the good jobs of the future that can’t be outsourced.
-
[State Demonym]s are already experiencing the impacts of climate change and need to maximize the opportunities associated with a clean economy. That’s why we are urging [Senator]
to stand up to the Trump administration’s attempts to roll back health and environmental protections and to support America’s growing clean economy.
Renew Target Messaging
-
A recent poll found that
a growing number of Americans describe climate change as a crisis
and two-thirds believe the Trump administration is not doing enough to tackle climate change.
-
[Senator] should oppose the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back protections that reduce the pollution contributing to the climate crisis. We need bold climate solutions that address the climate crisis and create
good clean energy jobs of the future.
-
As Americans grow increasingly concerned about the climate crisis, we need [Senator] to take action to help protect our health and environment, enhance job creation and the economy, and mitigate the worst impacts of climate
change.
Energize Target Messaging
-
[Representative] should listen to the demands for climate solutions and support the 100% Clean Economy Act of 2019.
-
City, state, and business leaders are already making commitments to achieve steep carbon pollution reductions and accelerate and incentivize the transition to clean, secure, and carbon-free energy. America is moving towards a 100% clean economy. [Representative]
should join this momentum by supporting the 100% Clean Economy Act of 2019.
