A fairly quiet week (for non-impeachment activity) in both chambers until after the State of the Union, it’s looking like. After that it’s another week with much of the relevant committee activity stacked in a single time slot.
House Floor Activity
- The House convenes at noon on Tuesday, with
the usual collection of suspension bills.
- Note that this week’s suspensions includes a few reauthorizations of EPA geographic programs like Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay.
- There are two bills currently slotted for consideration under a rule – one on labor rights, and one on Puerto Rico disaster aid.
- Additional legislation is expected “related to the administration’s proposed guidance on Medicaid funding.”
House Committee Activity
- On
Wednesday at 9 AM the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis is holding a hearing on “Overcoming the Health Risks of the Climate Crisis.”
- On
Wednesday at 10 AM the Energy subcommittee of Energy & Commerce is holding a hearing on “Modernizing the Natural Gas Act to Ensure it Works for Everyone.”
- On
Wednesday at 10 AM the Energy subcommittee of Natural Resources is holding a legislative hearing on H.R. 5598, the Boundary Water Wilderness Protection and Pollution Prevention Act.
- On
Wednesday at 10 AM the Investigations subcommittee of Science is holding a hearing on “Management and Spending Challenges within the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.”
- On
Thursday at 10 AM the Environment subcommittee of Energy & Commerce is holding a legislative hearing on H.R. 1166, the USE IT Act (on Carbon Capture and Sequestration, or CCS).
- On
Thursday at 2 PM the Oversight subcommittee of Financial Services is holding a hearing on “Fake it Till They Make It: How Bad Actors Use Astroturfing to Manipulate Regulators, Disenfranchise Consumers and Subvert the Rulemaking Process.”
- On
Thursday at 2 PM the Environment subcommittee of Oversight is holding a hearing on “A Threat to America’s Children: The Trump Administration’s Proposal to Undermine Protections from Mercury Air Toxics Standards.”
Senate Floor Activity
- The Senate convenes at 11 AM on Monday to hear closing arguments in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump.
- After closing arguments, expected to be around 3 PM, the Senate will be more or less in stasis (permanent morning business) until Wednesday at 4 PM, at which point they will vote on
the articles of impeachment.
Senate Committee Activity
- On
Wednesday at 10 AM the Environment and Public Works committee is holding an oversight hearing of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
