Friends,

Please join Sen. Sherrod Brown, tomorrow, Friday, May 8, for a vital community strategy meeting on business immunity.

When: Friday, May 8, 2-3 pm eastern

What: Coalition strategy session to defeat the Big Business campaign for immunity for wrongdoing, with remarks by Sen. Sherrod Brown

To join the video conference, you must RSVP here.

At the meeting, we will discuss what is at stake and the communities that will be especially affected. We will dissect the deceptions of Big Business proposals for immunity. And we will strategize about how to defeat immunity and protect the public.

This issue has cross-cutting effects on the health, economic and justice issues all of us are working on, on so many dimensions. Immunity will encourage corporations to behave recklessly and make us more unsafe. It will lead to more worker deaths and more preventable deaths for nursing home residents. It will lead to more pollution, increase the risk of industrial disasters that endanger communities, and potentially much more. It will shift costs from those who can pay to those who cannot.

Big Business is going all out to mobilize on this issue. To stop them, we must do the same.

Looking forward to talking on Friday!

Subject: Coalition Meeting on Fighting Business Immunity Legislation

Hi all,

As many of you already know, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) have created a new red line for moving forward with CARES 2.0, saying there will be no new relief bill – including critical funding for state and local governments on the frontline of the pandemic – unless Congress grants corporations immunity from liability for harm to workers, consumers, and patients.

Many organizations are already working hard to fight this dangerous proposal which would make workplaces less safe and override the state laws of all fifty states, and we need everyone in the progressive community to lock arms to ensure that CARES 2.0 can proceed.

Please join us on Friday, May 8, from 2-3pm as we discuss how immunizing big businesses hurts the entire community and find out what your organization can do to fight back.

Please RSVP here. Only those who RSVP will receive call-in information later in the week.

If you have specific questions that you would like addressed, please contact Remington A. Gregg at rgregg@citizen.org.

Thanks and hope to see you there.
