Hi all,

Thank you for your support in driving thousands of calls, emails, and tweets to Congress for the Essential Worker Bill of Rights Day of Action last Thursday.

I wanted to share some quick results from Greenpeace, Daily Kos, and MoveOn:

Many groups and orgs sent their own calls to action, too!

Stay tuned for another online day of action soon and even bigger calls to push for the Essential Worker Bill of Rights as Congress works on the next COVID-19 relief package.

>> Check out more photos from Thursday’s Greenpeace/Daily Kos action at the Capitol building in DC.

>> Follow the call to #ProtectEssentialWorkers on Twitter.

>> Reach out to Ntebo Mokuena (DailyKos) at ntebo.mokuena@dailykos.com to join the Essential Worker Bill of Rights joint petition and Vanessa Butterworth (Greenpeace USA) at vbutterw@greenpeace.org for any questions or thoughts around how to engage your members.

Thanks,

Charlie

Hi everyone,

Thanks to all the groups who’ve sent action alerts, emails, Tweets, and otherwise engaged your members to demand Congress pass an Essential Worker Bill of Rights! Dozens of labor unions, progressive advocacy orgs, and climate and environmental justice groups are supporting this vital effort.

There’s still time to join the Essential Workers Day of Action -- check out the toolkit for ways to mobilize your volunteers to call, Tweet, and email Congress to take action.

If you only have 2 min:

  1. Retweet this (Greenpeace/Daily Kos banner action in DC).

  2. Retweet this (APALA thread on ways to take action).

  3. Share this Facebook post!

Ohterwise, here are some helpful tools you can use:

  • House Rep call-in number 855-300-3836. Callers will get a follow up text with the option to join MoveOn SMS list, if not already subscribed

  • Send a message to Congress action page. Data will not be absorbed by Greenpeace.

This morning, Greenpeace and Daily Kos were able to visit the US Capitol grounds to highlight the protections that nurses, grocery clerks, delivery workers, janitors, transit workers, and all essential workers deserve in the pandemic.

Check out this beautiful banner by 350 DC activist and artist Nathan Park, and give it a Retweet:

We were joined by two powerful essential workers, Steve Kelley (with SEIU 32BJ) and Lukas Killian, RN (with AFT) on Instagram Live. Give this powerful video a listen and share here:

Again, a HUGE shoutout to the groups who’ve amplified the call to #ProtectEssentialWorkers so far. Check out some of the tweets below and head to the Day of Action toolkit to post your own!

Hi cdp,

Greenpeace, Daily Kos, Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, MoveOn, Indivisible, and dozens of other organizations are demanding Congress pass an Essential Worker Bill of Rights (EWBOR).  In the next few days, we have a critical window of action to influence the next COVID-19 relief package.

So this Thursday, May 7th, groups across the U.S. will be participating in an online day of action to mobilize grassroots supporters to demand Congress include vital protections for essential workers such as hazard pay, health and safety protections, universal paid sick leave, and protections for collective bargaining agreements in the next COVID-19 relief bill.

Can your organization join the Day of Action to support Essential Workers this Thursday 5/7?

Here's the toolkit with everything you need including graphics, action pages, and sample email and social copy to mobilize your members to call, tweet, and email Congress.

Calling for an Essential Worker Bill of Rights is a huge way we as a climate & enviro community can show up for labor allies and working families across the country in this time of crisis. If we succeed in pressuring Congress to put workers first in this upcoming COVID-19 relief bill, then we’ll be better positioned to ensure future economic recovery legislation will create millions of good-paying jobs in a world beyond fossil fuels.

NB: While we need Republicans on board with the EWBOR for final passage, it's important that we are also contacting Democrats right now, as they are drafting the next COVID-19 relief legislation and will be the deciders for how many EWBOR provisions get included in the proposal.

MORE INFO

It’s important to engage your members leading up to May 7 AND on May 7 to build momentum in these crucial hours before the next COVID-19 relief proposal is introduced.

Leading up to May 7, we hope you can:

  • Promote the day of action (see toolkit for sample social copy and graphics).

  • Engage your members to sign the Essential Worker Bill of Rights joint petition. To join the petition, email Ntebo Mokuena at ntebo.mokuena@dailykos.com. Our goal is to get 1M+ signatures. Or, launch your own petition -- template copy in the toolkit.

ON Thursday, May 7, we hope you can mobilize your members to email, Tweet at, and call their Senators and Representative to support the Essential Worker Bill of Rights. Greenpeace, MoveOn, and Indivisible are providing some helpful tools groups are welcome to use:

  • House Rep call-in number 855-300-3836. Callers will get a follow up text with the option to join MoveOn SMS list, if not already subscribed.

Again, everything you need to know is in this toolkit: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xnuIT9f4nZu-E846U0j1Q39NhRBLqCK0I0m7BYM-2PQ/edit#

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Vanessa (vbutterw@greenpeace.org), Ntebo (ntebo.mokuena@dailykos.com) or Emma (emma.einhorn@moveon.org).

If you would like to join the digital and comms communication list for the Essential Workers Bill of Rights please contact CovidResponse@Fenton.com.

If your organization would like to endorse the Essential Worker Bill of Rights, please reach out to Sasha Bruce at sashalbruce@gmail.com

Thanks so much,

Charlie
