Message of the Week: July 6, 2020
- Last week, Donald Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it will end its suspension of its enforcement of environmental safeguards
on August 31st. This enforcement suspension policy was unveiled by EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler at the onset of the COVID-19 crisis in March and was clearly intended to give a free pass to dirty polluters.
- Wheeler stopped
enforcing environmental laws and safeguards
at a time when new
research demonstrated that air pollution makes COVID-19 more deadly, especially for communities of color and underinvested
communities.
- By supporting big polluters, undermining scientists and abdicating EPA’s mission to protect public health and the environment, Wheeler has deftly
carried out the legacy of his predecessor - the disgraced Scott Pruitt who was forced to resign in 2018 for his abuse of taxpayer dollars and ethical blunders.
- Trump’s administration is responsible for the rollbacks of
100 public health and
environment protections
- leaving people’s air, land, water, climate, and wildlife increasingly vulnerable to the dangerous consequences of pollution and the climate crisis.
Reorient Target Messaging
- [Senator]
needs to hold EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler accountable for his anti-environmental agenda and have a plan to address all threats to public health, including the coronavirus and the climate crisis.
- We need bold solutions to address both the coronavirus pandemic and climate crisis to protect people and communities.
Renew Target Messaging
- As EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler continues to attack public health safeguards, we need [Senator]
to take action and have a plan to help protect people’s health and environment, enhance job creation and the economy, correct inequities linked to environmental injustices and health disparities, and mitigate the worst impacts of climate change.
Energize Target Messaging
- Donald Trump and EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler are taking aggressive steps to worsen our air quality amid this global public health
crisis. We commend [Representative]
for moving swiftly to address this crisis and for understanding that science matters in developing public policies that protect our health and environment.
- The coronavirus public health crisis demands strong leadership and bold action to stabilize the economy and protect people from extreme
weather. We commend [Representative]
for moving swiftly to address this crisis and for understanding that science matters in developing public policies that protect our health and environment.
