Hi all –
The Trump administration will finalize their rollbacks to the CEQ NEPA rule tomorrow. Trump intends to announce it during a speech discussing the administration’s rollbacks at a UPS airport hub outside Atlanta. We expect this final rule
to be largely similar to the proposed rule, which means it would sideline communities, remove the consideration of cumulative effects, and allow polluters even greater license to pollute, among many other attacks on this bedrock environmental law. At a time
when the nation’s attention is focused on the dual injustices of the Covid-19 crisis and systemic racism, this attack by the Trump administration is especially egregious and will have a disproportionate impact on low-income communities and communities of color.
Please use this
community toolkit to respond in force on social media and in the press tomorrow. This document includes talking points, social guidance, and a sample statement and action alert. If you are issuing a statement, please consider adding it to our round-up
here. We will share updated guidance tomorrow responding to Trump’s speech and the final rule text.
For groups that are working with members of Congress, please consider sharing this
hill toolkit with champs and allies to encourage them to respond tomorrow as well.
Thanks,
Erin
