Good afternoon all,
After a year filled with record-breaking heat waves, devastating wildfires, and multiple hurricanes pummeling the Gulf Coast, the oil and gas industry is attempting to dissuade Americans from addressing the worsening
climate crisis that they helped to cause. They know that an overwhelming majority of Americans want bold
climate action and are resorting to fake ads with actors lying about the economic realities and job opportunities of a future with clean energy, air, and water.
In a new ad by API, not only does it attempt to scare voters, but Big Oil couldn’t even get a real
energy worker to help them spread these false claims. On a page supposedly dedicated to sharing real stories, they are promoting inaccurate
information and using actors, instead of real workers, to do so.
The fact is, nearly two-thirds of Americans believe the federal government should act more aggressively to combat climate change, and almost as many say the problem is already affecting their community
in some way, in a June Pew Research
Center survey. Climate Power 2020 has further fact checked this ad, with real people, and you should too:
What The Ad Says: “Right now, the jobs of more than 10 million working men and women are supported by making and moving
natural gas and oil”
The Facts:
What The Ad Says: “but extreme environmental proposals like a ban
on new leases to access energy on federal lands could cause hundreds of thousands of Americans to lose their jobs.”
The Facts:
What The Ad Says: “Good paying careers. Jobs like Ben's. There's
too much at stake.”
The Facts: Let’s Talk About “Ben”
