Colleagues,
Recently a proposal from Senator Cortez Masto entitled the
Northern Nevada Rural Land Management, Conservation, and Military Readiness Act
was released. Her intention is try and include it in the currently being negotiated FY21 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Many groups see the proposal as problematic from both a conservation perspective and an environmental justice perspective because
of public lands and wildlife impacts, and because it
negatively impacts one of the tribes in the area by expanding the base further into their cultural sites and resources. It quadruples the size of the Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada for bombing training and war games, and includes a number of other lands
proposals in Northern Nevada which comprehensively will result in a diminishment or loss of public lands protections on at least 998,965 acres of public land in central Nevada.
Please join Earthjustice, Sierra Club, Center for Biological Diversity and Defenders of Wildlife in
signing this letter of concern about both the rushed process and policy in this proposal.
Please
sign here by Wednesday, October 21st and let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Blaine Miller-McFeeley
Senior Legislative Representative
