#TimeToAct | Don’t Take Trump’s Bait
Guidance on responding to continued attempts to delegitimize the Biden presidency
_______________________________________________________
Sharing a reminder before the weekend break to stay the course on our messaging regarding Trump's refusal to concede and accept the election results. Trump and his allies are continuing to try to create a conversation about the legitimacy of the election and pressure decision-makers in states to overturn the election outcome. Trump’s strategy is becoming clearer, but that does not mean he has a path forward. His attempts are failing, and we must stay patient and not take the bait because responding creates further conversation and lends credence to their outlandish claims.
Again, this is not to say that Trump's attacks on our democracy are not deeply alarming or that we are completely out of the woods yet. We will continue to monitor these attempts throughout the Thanksgiving holiday as the Safe Harbor (Dec 8) and Electoral Vote Submission (Dec 14) deadlines approach. We will adjust our strategy and communicate it with this group accordingly.
At this time, our job is not to engage with this disinformation campaign, provide accurate information when needed, and project confidence in the outcome of the election by focusing on Biden's historic victory, record turnout, transition plans, and our aspirations for his presidency. As a reminder, here is data shared by Navigator:
"Biden makes history -- Biden won the highest percentage of eligible voters since 1980, and the margin of Biden’s victory (5.1 million votes and counting) is one of the largest in over twenty years, exceeding Obama's defeat of John McCain in 2012. It’s also the largest defeat of an incumbent since FDR beat Herbert Hoover in 1932."
Stay tuned for further updates.
