Updated guidance on responding to continued attempts to delegitimize the Biden presidency

_____________________________________________________________________________________

The Michigan Board of Canvassers will meet today at 1 pm eastern to vote on certifying the state's election results. Here is an update to the guidance we sent on Friday.

First and foremost, we remain confident that the will of the voters will stand across the country, as Trump and his allies continue to fail in court overwhelmingly, and key voices continue to speak up regarding the fact that Biden will be the next President. Our job still is to avoid amplifying disinformation and projecting confidence in the outcome of the election by focusing on Biden's historic victory, record turnout, transition plans, and our aspirations for his presidency.

At the same time, our allies in Michigan are demanding Michigan legislators respect the will of the voters while lifting our message about moving forward. This is an opportunity to activate your members and supporters in Michigan, especially if the Board fails to certify the results.

In the meantime, we will continue to monitor these attempts throughout the Thanksgiving holiday as the Safe Harbor (Dec 8) and Electoral Vote Submission (Dec 14) deadlines approach. We will adjust our strategy and communicate it with this group accordingly.

Thanks in advance for your help. Please let me know if you have any questions.

MICHIGAN | *Please note that local/state organizations provided this guidance through the Fight Back Table listserve

Put pressure on Michigan legislators: Turn up the heat on the GOP to demand they respect the will of the voters while lifting our message about moving forward. Local groups will be using the #AllEyesOnMI and #DoYourJob hashtags.

For all groups:

  • Encourage supporters to join phonebanks every day this week (sign up here) to encourage voters to call local elected officials and make sure they respect the outcome of the November 3rd election.

  • Encourage supporters to join text-banks every day this week (sign up here) to encourage voters to email their legislators to make sure they respect the will of the people.

For groups with capacity in Michigan:

  • Flood legislative inboxes in MI with emails demanding they respect the will of the people - Michiganders can fill out the form to identify your state senator and representative and email them directly.

  • Promote the Elected Officials Pledge: Michiganders can reach out to your elected officials and ask them to sign the pledge (bit.ly/MIVotersDecided) to ensure the rules aren’t changed after the people have voted and decided. Reach out to them directly, especially elected officials that you have relationships with that you know will stand with us. We need their support to make sure they respect the will of the people.
