Election Week Poll: Latino Voters want Climate Action that will Power Up the Economy

Latino voters across the country, regardless of partisan differences, support legislation that makes real and lasting climate progress while also growing the economy finds a new election week poll from Latino Decisions and EDF Action. Latino voters want the next president and Congress to reinstate and enforce environmental protections that the Trump administration has worked to dismantle during the coronavirus pandemic. Latino voters also want to help rebuild our economy by investing in clean energy jobs and green infrastructure and overwhelmingly support legislation that ensures clean water and healthy air.

“The environment is a unifying message for the Latino electorate. Latinos want their representatives to take bold action to power up our economy and by doing so combat the multidimensional challenges our country is facing – from climate to the economy, these crises are deeply interconnected,” said Esther Sosa, Project Manager for EDF Action.

“This polling shows just how strong a pro-climate message is with Latino voters, and their support for commonsense solutions that will help jumpstart our economy from investments in clean energy to green infrastructure,” said Dr. Edward Vargas, Senior Analyst, Latino Decisions.

Key poll findings:

At the state level, this support also proved true. For example, regarding investments in clean energy jobs like wind and solar, 77% in Arizona, 79% in Colorado, 84% in Michigan, 83% in North Carolina, 82% in Nevada and 78% in Texas, all want this policy approach to be prioritized.

Latino Decisions conducted the survey, on behalf of EDF Action, between October 23rd – November 2nd, 2020. The poll was conducted by landline, cell and on-line with Latino registered voters in English and Spanish at respondent’s discretion. The national poll was conducted among a national sample of 500 registered Latino voters with a 1.4% margin of error. The state samples each had 400 registered Latino voters with a 4.9% margin of error.
