On April 22-23, President Biden is hosting 40 world leaders for a Leaders Summit on Climate focused on the urgent need for bold climate action to keep the planet under the 1.5 degree warming threshold.

Much of the summit will be focused primarily on land-based emissions and new technologies, but as Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry indicated in his remarks at Monaco on March 22, ocean climate solutions will also be on the agenda. This is a key opportunity to amplify ocean climate action messaging, raise awareness about the many climate solutions that the ocean offers, and emphasize the need to heal and restore ocean ecosystems.

In addition to the summit, there will be a Virtual Side Event with Special Envoy Kerry onHow Ocean-Based Solutions Contribute to Net Zero” supported by the United Nations Foundation and Ocean Conservancy on April 20.

We hope you will use these events and other opportunities to engage across digital platforms over the next ten days to raise awareness and visibility around ocean climate action with a focus on:

  1. Investing in coastal restoration & resilience

  2. Scaling up offshore renewable energy

  3. Reducing shipping & port emissions
