Tomorrow at 2 pm EST, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies is hosting a hearing to review the President’s Fiscal Year 2022 Funding Request for the U.S. Department of Commerce, which includes NOAA. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo will testify.

Because of its roles as a collector and provider of scientific information and data and as a fisheries and ocean resource manager and regulator, NOAA plays a critical part in furthering climate mitigation as well as climate adaptation and resilience efforts in the United States. Housed within the Department of Commerce, NOAA had a $5.6 billion discretionary budget and 12,000 personnel in 2021, representing 63% of the Department of Commerce’s budget.

The topline budget request number for NOAA in the President’s proposed budget is $6.9 billion, the highest number ever proposed for NOAA, and a clear recognition of the role that agency has to play as both a collector and a provider of information and of products and services that will be needed by cities, states, and stakeholders facing the impacts of climate change.

Please help show support for a robust budget for NOAA using the materials in the toolkit attached!
