Democracy Protections & The Need for Filibuster Reform

This year, our nation has witnessed the most direct attacks on our democracy in recent memory. At least 19 states have enacted 33 laws making it harder for people to vote. The Freedom to Vote Act would help to reverse these voter suppression tactics. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans this week refused even to debate these protections by enacting the filibuster for the third time since June.

As leaders in Congress and across the environmental community continue to fight to secure a comprehensive and equitable bipartisan infrastructure package, we must ensure that democracy remains a top priority. We cannot afford to let Republican obstructionism and abuse of the filibuster stand in the way — our democracy is too important. We have a short window of time with a guaranteed Democratic White House and Congress — now is the time. We must stand with our allies to meet the moment.

To help the environmental community understand the need to reform the filibuster and pass these historic protections, we have assembled a team of experts and organizers to discuss:

  • Why the Freedom to Vote Act matters to our community;
  • The problem with the filibuster; and
  • Three perspectives from environmental organizations calling for filibuster reform.

Please join us to learn more about this opportunity and the path to victory.
