Dear all,
I just want to make sure everyone has
this transatlantic organizational sign-on letter responding to the US-EU Energy Security Agreement with a unified message that now is the time to accelerate shifts to renewable, clean energy, not to ramp up new fossil fuel exports infrastructure.
Please add your organization here by this Friday, April 8th:

On Monday, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its most urgent report yet — the planet is on track to experience the most devastating effects of climate change unless world leaders break our dependence on fossil
fuels NOW!
Unfortunately, US President Biden and EU President von der Leyen recent US/EU
Energy Security announcement will mean more fracking and LNG infrastructure. The worst part is none of this LNG infrastructure will be in place to deal with the current crisis, as it takes at least 3 years to build new infrastructure for LNG. We need a
strong response form the US and EU to push back on this deal and demand a phase out of fossil fuels and plan for 100% clean renewable energy.
Tell President Biden and President von der Leyen we need to get off fossil fuels: https://forms.gle/np42VQ7wWZNUeDJQ6
New research points
to the fact that energy efficiency and renewable energy can have an immediate impact on gas usage and replace 2/3 of Russian gas in Europe by 2025. While the proposal does include language around clean energy, there are no hard commitments or goals to make
this happen.
We are already seeing a rush to expand LNG export capacity, with an announcement this morning about construction beginning at the Driftwood LNG facility in the Gulf: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tellurian-driftwood-lng-begins-construction-104500054.html
This also comes on the heals of an announcement that FERC is walking back commitments to look at climate and EJ impacts of gas pipelines, as they have approved two new projects in the Gulf that will increase gas production: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/federal-regulators-pulls-back-plan-to-assess-climate-impact-of-gas-pipelines
This is moving quickly and a strong push from US organizations will be important to influencing the work of the newly created a joint Task Force on Energy Security in the US/EU Energy Security agreement to ensure it charts a path off gas
and not just replacing Russian gas with fracked gas from the United States.
