Hi there,
A major new study was released today showing Americans use four times as much energy as they need, while more than a billion people living without electricity worldwide could be lifted out of energy poverty with far less power than previously believed.
Researchers at Stanford University found that the average person needs 75 gigajoules a year to live a good and healthy life. Americans use 284 gigajoules a year.
In essence, residents of wealthy countries could dramatically reduce their energy use without sacrificing their quality of life. Meanwhile, developing countries can provide enough power to give their citizens a decent quality of life while meeting climate goals.
