Hi all,
Climate Power just came out of the field yesterday with a new Data for Progress poll underscoring how the Inflation Reduction Act is the right set of policies
at the right time and will pay huge political dividends for Democrats - but only if they pass it.
Four key points from our brand new national survey:
-
The Inflation Reduction Act is popular among Democrats (95 percent), Independents (73 percent), and Republicans (52 percent) alike. Any
policy that can attract the near-unanimous support of Democrats, overwhelming majority of Independents, and even a majority of Republicans is a clear winner.
-
The clean energy and climate provisions of the bill enjoy widespread support. Every single policy
is backed by the lion’s share of Democrats and Independents, and most enjoy the backing of a majority or plurality of Republicans. As another example of the broad appeal of this plan, several provisions are even more popular among voters without a college
education than college-educated voters.
-
The climate impact of the Inflation Reduction Act makes it even more popular. After learning about
the plan’s ability to reduce climate pollution, a majority of voters (56 percent) say that it makes them more supportive of the bill. This includes a strong majority of Democrats (82 percent) and over half of Independents (52 percent). Just 10 percent of voters
say the climate impact makes them less supportive of the plan. And among Republicans who say the climate impact changes their view of the plan, by a 14-point margin (33 percent to 19 percent) it makes them more likely
to support it.
-
The Inflation Reduction Act is a big political winner for Democrats. By a large margin, Democrats and Independents are more likely to back a candidate who supports the bill. By
a 39-point margin (64 percent to 25 percent), voters say supporting the plan makes them more likely to back a candidate. Nearly two-thirds of Independents and even 39 percent of Republicans are more likely to support a candidate who backs the Inflation Reduction
Act.
It’s worth noting that the generic congressional ballot at the top of the poll found Democrats behind by four points (44 percent to 48 percent), so this is not a sample biased in favor of Democrats.
We need to build momentum as we head toward Senate consideration of the bill, so we would appreciate it if you would use your channels to boost this important
data. You can find the Data for Progress blog post here,

Late last week, Climate Power also went on offense on the airwaves in D.C. and national cable with a new
ad educating voters about what is in the Democrats’ historic plan, how it
will lower costs for families, and tackle climate change by supercharging the production of Made in America clean energy.
Please let me know if you have any questions, feedback, or ideas.
Thanks,
Josh
