Hello all,

Please see below for more information about a funding opportunity to work on elevating what’s at stake in the upcoming Sackett v. EPA case!

Overview: Use this short form to submit a proposal by 8/29 for up to $15,000 in funding to engage in activities that bring attention to the Sackett case and its implications for people across the country.

Background: This October, the United States Supreme Court will decide what waters can and cannot be protected by the Clean Water Act in a case called “Sackett v. EPA.” If the polluting industries and opponents of clean water get what they’ve asked for in the case, it would eliminate long-standing safeguards for wetlands that help protect our communities from flooding and streams that supply our drinking water.

In this 50th anniversary year of the Clean Water Act, now, more than ever, the Act is at risk and we want to help organizations speak out on the importance of clean water and  to make clear what’s at stake in this case.

Additional information about this opportunity: We are aiming to fund organizations to engage in activities that bring attention to the case and its implications for people across the country. Activities could include op-eds, letters to the editor, social media engagement, pressers/telepressers/virtual pressers, local events, videos, and other earned media opportunities. We are excited to engage a wide range of audiences including local businesses, impacted communities, recreational users, families, and farmers.  We are also interested in your ideas outside of these suggested activities and audiences, and invite you to submit a proposal for funding of up to $15,000.

Please use this short form to share your interest and submit a proposal. Our goal is to fund organizations representing a diverse array of perspectives and constituencies, with an emphasis on those who are most impacted by water pollution, whether that be to their health, economies, quality of life, etc.

Proposals are due by end of day, August 29, 2022. Those selected will be announced soon after for work to begin in early September and go through June 2023,  with a large share of the work concentrated  in September-October leading up to and immediately following the Supreme Court oral arguments on October 3, and around the Supreme Court decision in 2023, the date of which has not yet been announced.

Groups will have the support of Clean Water for All and communications consultants who can help with messaging, reporter connections, placing of op-eds and LTEs, and other media-related activities. There will be no formal reporting requirements associated with this funding, only tracking of activities and outputs produced.

Thank you and please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Best,

Jeni
