On February 9, a bipartisan coalition of governors (the U.S. Climate Alliance) representing approximately 60 percent of the U.S. economy and 55 percent of the U.S. population — called on the Biden administration to move swiftly on more than 20 specific federal climate actions that will support states and accelerate America’s transition to a net-zero future.

The actions the Alliance is recommending will cut emissions, advance environmental justice, increase resilience, and lower energy costs. They include strengthening emissions standards for maritime vessels, a critical action for decarbonizing the shipping sector. The ocean is a source of many climate solutions, as outlined in the Blueprint for Ocean Climate Action, and can help the administration achieve its climate goals.
