Savannah Mayor, Clean Energy Leaders Celebrate Climate Wins; Urge President Biden to Finish the Job

February 22, 2023

Federal clean energy investments approved in the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act are helping Savannah lead Georgia's clean energy transition, from new electric vehicles in the city's fleet to major economic investments like the Bryan County Hyundai mega site.

Last week, Savannah leaders celebrated these historic climate investments and called for more clean energy investments at a panel discussion organized by the Climate Action Campaign (CAC). The panel featured Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, City Alderman Nick Palumbo, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System Board Member Denise Grabowski, Savannah Tree Foundation Executive Director Zoe Rinker, and solar consultant AJ Jeanty.

Speakers celebrated the myriad clean energy investments that will drive down pollution and help mitigate the worst impacts of climate change. They also called on President Biden to go further to reach his pledge to cut carbon pollution by at least 50% by the end of this decade.

The event secured significant media interest, generating 11 media clips, including coverage in Savannah Morning News and several local television newscasts. A recording of the full event can be found on CAC’s Facebook page.
