Please help amplify an op-ed published in the Providence Journal, co-signed by members of the the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL) network State Senator Alana DiMario and State Representative David Morales, titled “Coastal Resilience Projects Will Make Big Waves in Rhode Island’s Fight Against Climate Change.”
Rhode Island, like many other coastal states, faces increasing climate change impacts. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act has opened the door to historic coastal resilience funding, and the authors write that the State must make sure this funding is reaching frontline communities that are the most at risk. Programs such as STORMTOOLS in Rhode Island allows the State to determine which communities are the most vulnerable to flooding and which areas to prioritize for coastal resilience projects.
