Hi all,
I want to share a new Center for American Progress issue brief I wrote with colleagues Jasia Smith and Mariel Lutz:
“Why the Farm Bill May Be the Highest-Stakes Climate Fight Flying Below the Radar”
This CAP brief explains how substantial climate and conservation progress hangs in the balance as Congress gets to work reauthorizing the expiring Farm Bill. For the United States to lead the world in climate-smart
agriculture and address the interlinked crises of climate change and nature loss, the next Farm Bill must cement and build on key Inflation Reduction Act investments. Conversely, if extreme positions prevail and Congress strips away those Farm Bill program
investments, America will take a massive step backward on climate, conservation, and rural prosperity.
In the paper, we outline a set of specific recommended priorities for Congress to show up for farmers, ranchers, forest owners, and other community members who are ready to harness this opportunity and take the
lead on safeguarding the nation’s natural resources and our climate.
