Hi folks,

Today, Evergreen Action released a new blog, EPA Must Reduce Power Plant Pollution Sooner, Not Later. We’ve talked a lot about the three critical ways EPA must strengthen their proposed carbon standards for power plants – 1) expand the number of plants, 2) speed up compliance timelines, and 3) increase safeguards and community input. This blog dives into the second recommendation: speeding up compliance timelines, or the deadline EPA sets for plants to be in full compliance with the rule. Under EPA’s current proposal, these timelines are currently too far out and would allow many plants to continue to pollute for a long time before the full force of the rule kicks in. We hope you’ll help us amplify this blog by retweeting it here!

The blog outlines EPA’s currently proposed compliance timelines for existing gas, coal, and new gas, what they mean at the individual plant level, why they’re not aligned with our power sector decarbonization goals, and what an updated, more ambitious EPA timeline would look like in contrast.

Time is running out to submit comments to EPA on their proposal before the August 8 deadline – we hope this blog and our previous blog Three Ways EPA Must Strengthen Its Power Plant Carbon Rules can be a resource for your comments. Help us fight back against the fossil industry to ensure we have as strong a final rule as possible that is aligned with our decarbonization goals, addresses climate change, and saves lives.

Thank you and as always please do not hesitate to reach out with any thoughts or questions.

Best,

Hannah
