Good morning,
Reupping the
opposition letter for HR 6285, "Alaska's Right to Produce Act," below. As this is a significant attack on protections for America's Arctic,
it's critical that we show Congress that there is significant opposition to this bill.
Big thanks to the nearly 40 groups who have already signed on!
In September 2023, President Biden announced sweeping conservation measures for the
Arctic, including 13 million acres of new protections for the Western Arctic and the cancelation of all remaining oil leases in the Arctic Refuge. As a result, Congressional Republicans, joined by Representative Peltola, passed out of committee the Alaska's
Right to Produce Act, which would, among many other bad things:
-
Reinstate the canceled oil leases in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge, and restore the Trump-era leasing program for the Coastal Plain
-
Rescind the proposed conservation regulation for the Western Arctic,
which would protect 13 million acres from oil and gas development, and prohibit any substantially similar regulation from being implemented in the future
-
Preempt future oil and gas projects in the Arctic from judicial review
-
Seeks to eliminate 125 million acres of existing protections from
oil and gas leasing in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas created by President Obama and restored by President Biden
Please join us in telling
Congress to vote no on HR 6285 in this
letter. Since floor vote timing is uncertain, we are closing the letter on Friday 1/26.
Thank you,
--Alex

Subject: [SIGN ON BY 1/17] Defend the Arctic and Oppose HR 6285 "Alaska's Right to Produce Act"
Good afternoon,
In early September, President Biden announced sweeping conservation measures for the Arctic, including 13 million acres of new protections for the Western Arctic and the cancelation of all remaining oil leases in the Arctic Refuge. As a result, Congressional
Republicans, joined by Representative Peltola, have passed out of committee the Alaska's Right to Produce Act, which would, among many other bad things:
-
Reinstate the canceled oil leases in the Refuge, and restore the Trump-era leasing program for the Coastal Plain
-
Rescind the proposed conservation regulation for the Western Arctic, which as proposed would protect 13 million acres from oil and gas development, and prohibit any substantially similar regulation from being implemented in the future
-
Preempt future oil and gas projects in the Arctic from judicial review
-
Seeks to eliminate 125 million acres of existing protections from oil and gas leasing
in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas created by President Obama and restored by President Biden
Please join us in telling Congress to vote no on HR 6285 in
this
letter, slightly updated from the December committee vote letter to reflect a floor vote. If you are previously signed onto that version, you are already on this one unless you'd like to be taken off – in which case please let me know.
Since floor vote timing is uncertain, we are closing the letter on 1/17.
