When the topline spending deal was reached and conservatives were upset that they didn't get the steep funding cuts they've been after all year, Speaker Mike Johnson made clear that his intention is to make up for that "[fighting] for the important policy riders included in our House FY24 bills." The historic onslaught of policy riders this fall included mandated fossil fuel leasing, prohibiting agencies from finalizing rules like WOTUS, imperiling endangered species, blocking all environmental justice activities, and so, so much more. It is critical that environmental groups say loudly and clearly to congressional leadership that including any anti-environmental policy riders is unacceptable.
