Isuzu Announces New Battery EV Medium-Duty Truck With Accelera Powertrain — “Isuzu North America Corp. announced that it is developing an new, zero-emission Class 6 & 7 truck, using an Accelera by Cummins powertrain for both the United States and Canada. The companies are planning availability in 2026. The trucks will be powered by Accelera’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology along with a low cab forward chassis. This truck, according to Isuzu, represents the first zero-emissions solution facilitated by the Isuzu Cummins Powertrain Partnership formed in May 2019. ‘With the start of production of our Isuzu class 5 N-Series EV coming this summer and with the future addition of the Isuzu battery electric class 6 & 7 truck, we will be able to provide zero emission solutions across our product line-up,’ said Shaun Skinner, executive officer of Isuzu Motors Limited. ‘This will also improve the breadth of our overall offerings providing customers the ability to choose the product and propulsion system that best fits their needs.’ ‘Partnership and collaboration is critical to supporting customers through the energy transition,’ added Amy Davis, president of Accelera by Cummins. ‘Together with Isuzu, and our joint commitment to innovation, we will provide customers with safe, reliable zero-emissions solutions.’” [Fleet Equipment Magazine, 5/16/24 (=)]

Daimler Trucks To Invest $40 Million In Portland Engineering Center — “Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) announced plans to invest more than $40 million in a new electric vehicle engineering facility at its Swan Island headquarters in Portland. Daimler says its new, 110,000-square-foot engineering facility will bring together multiple research projects in one place, including battery electric and hydrogen-fuel cell electric vehicles. The investment is expected to add about 150 new, ‘high-wage’ jobs to the area. ‘Daimler Truck North America is proud to call Portland, Oregon our home,’ said John O’Leary, president and CEO, DTNA. ‘We appreciate the City and State’s support of our expansion plans to further promote the development and proper testing of advanced technology and look forward to collaborating for many more years to come on training and employing a future-ready workforce.’ The new addition to DTNA’s ‘Electric Island’ will accelerate the testing and development of charging equipment for commercial vehicles since a first-of-its-kind charging station for electric trucks was built in partnership with Portland General Electric (PGE) in 2021.” [Electrek, 5/16/24 (=)]

ChargePoint

ChargePoint Debuts The Fiercely Powerful Megawatt Charging System For Electric Trucks — “ChargePoint’s (NYSE: CHPT) new Megawatt Charging System for commercial electric trucks is capable of dispensing enough energy to power around 1,000 homes. Hossein Kazemi, ChargePoint’s CTO for hardware, said, ‘Megawatt charging solves one-half of the electrification equation for trucking. The companies developing electric trucks can now leverage this infrastructure to test and enable their vehicles until they meet – or even exceed – the distances covered by internal combustion trucks.’ The Megawatt Charging System cable and connector will be available on ChargePoint’s Power Link 2000 stations, part of its modular Express Plus DC fast charging platform. The Megawatt Charging System will initially provide up to 1.2 megawatts (MW) of power. This system supports bidirectional charging and is designed to eventually deliver up to 3 MW, anticipating future vehicles that can handle such a charge. Additionally, the system is engineered for use in marine and aviation applications.” [Electrek, 5/16/24 (=)]
