Please add your organization to an opposition letter on the suite of bills attacking NEPA that will be considered in the HNRC legislative hearing on Wednesday by 3 pm EST TODAY. 

As many of you know, House republicans are holding a hearing on Wednesday on bills that would eviscerate review, public input, and judicial accountability under NEPA.

One of the bills is a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution that would overturn the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ)’s Phase 2 National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations and permanently prevent them from ever issuing a rule substantially similar. The new regulations are explicit about exactly how agencies are required to consider both climate change and environmental justice when building or funding critical infrastructure. The CRA resolution is an attempt to prevent agencies from even considering climate or the disproportionate impacts of development on environmental justice communities.

The other bill is an extreme proposal that would directly amend NEPA to essentially remove consideration of climate change in environmental reviews and shut the courthouse doors to anyone trying to hold agencies accountable for ignoring impacts or communities.
