Hi all,

Hurricane Helene was one of the most devastating climate disasters in U.S. history. While the full extent of the damage has yet to be tabulated, we know lives have been lost and communities have been severely damaged. Hundreds of thousands of people remain without power and clean water, and many are still missing.

This #ClimateFriday, we're highlighting some social guidance to share resources to connect our Southeastern neighbors with essential donations and to draw the connections between climate change and deadlier and costlier extreme weather events.

As always, please feel free to tweak the below guidance to fit your/your organization's voice and don't forget to share your posts with us tomorrow so we can engage and amplify!

Hope everyone has a safe weekend,
Sarah and the CAC Team

What to Say:

Tens of thousands without running water

Over 200 deaths

The impact of #Helene cannot be understated, & neither can the cause: Climate change is to blame for making storms like this more powerful & destructive. #ClimateFriday

  • Hurricane #Helene may have made landfall last week, but Southeastern communities will be feeling the impacts of this major climate disaster for the foreseeable future, with hundreds of thousands still without power and nearly 200 dead. #ClimateFriday https://abcnews.go.com/US/live-updates/hurricane-helene/?id=113931821

  • "But in a world reshaped by human-caused global warming, no place is truly safe and Helene had the “fingerprints of climate change” all over it."

#Helene is a devastating reminder that climate change is a danger to all communities. #ClimateFriday https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/02/climate/asheville-flooding-history-helene/index.html
