Hello,

We are reaching out to encourage your organization to sign a crucial letter, drafted by the Natural Resources Defense Council and the John Muir Project, addressed to the Biden administration. The letter urges the administration to ensure that the clean energy incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) do not support forest biomass.

The recent devastation caused by extreme weather events highlights the critical need to align our energy policies with true climate solutions. Allowing forest biomass to qualify for clean energy incentives would undermine the act's goal of reducing carbon emissions, as burning wood for energy is far from carbon-neutral. In fact, research shows that it leads to a net increase in carbon emissions, exacerbating the climate crisis rather than mitigating it.

This letter emphasizes the importance of excluding forest biomass power to keep the IRA focused on genuine zero-emission and low-emission energy sources that can effectively meet our climate goals.

We greatly appreciate your consideration and look forward to your support in ensuring that the IRA delivers on its promise of meaningful climate action. Signatures due by Friday, October 18th: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf7IyI5hXRQjgxDg3YZo8AxdGHj9_VVUaVdLEuf4n1h8-AS8A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Thank you for your continued commitment to this cause.
