Subject: CALL AND EMAIL REPUBLICANS TODAY AND TOMORROW 12.18.2024 - Disaster Relief Package on the Line via CR

Good evening Disaster Relief and Recovery Partners:

Thank you for your advocacy on the supplemental disaster assistance package. As of last night, the Continuing Resolution or “CR” includes several of our priorities including programs for Army Corps, EPA, FEMA, USDA, Forest Service, NOAA, BLM, NPS, and Bureau of Reclamation, among others. See the spreadsheet here for more information on key provisions and issues we are tracking. Text here.

Yet our work isn’t done just yet. And the CR remains in limbo.

THE OPPORTUNITY: Right now, we need your help to CALL and EMAIL Republicans in the House and Senate including key leadership (House Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and Majority Whip Tom Emmer) to support the CR.

INSTRUCTIONS: Time is ticking! Please reach out to your members of Congress and express support to help get this bill across the finish line, see script below. Funding for our impacted communities from recent hurricanes and extreme weather events is on the line. Attached and below are resources including a script and Hill contact info to facilitate your outreach. If you have any questions or need help, please contact me at jsigaran@americanrivers.org / 240-593-3433.

Thank you for your advocacy,

Dear Member of Congress:

On behalf of, [NAME OF YOUR ORG/BUSINESS + MISSION STATEMENT], I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to leaders in the House and Senate for coming together to secure a much-needed disaster and economic assistance package for families, businesses, and communities impacted by hurricanes and other extreme weather events. We are especially pleased to see funding for water infrastructure as well as FEMA, Army Corps, Forest Service, among other key programs – ensuring recovery funding is reliable, accessible, and flexible to meet the challenges ahead.

Yet some in Congress want to deny families, businesses, and our communities help when they most need it. That is simply unacceptable.

We strongly urge Congress to pass this bipartisan legislative package which includes intentional and targeted assistance that supports rebuilding efforts such as improving water infrastructure, reducing flooding, and enhancing resilience to better prepare for future storms.

A government shutdown is not an option, so we call on your leadership and encourage you to work with Congress to meet this moment and support this temporary funding bill as soon as possible.

Thank you for your consideration,

[YOUR NAME]
