Good afternoon all,

Thousands of Californians woke up again today surrounded by flames and pollution after multiple wildfires tore through southern parts of the state. Houses, schools, health care centers, and businesses have been destroyed.

Experts have found that the wildfires are the result of an unprecedented combination of historically high winds – the worst in Southern California since 2011 – combined with some of the driest ever January conditions. Climate change is amplifying extreme weather events, causing California to swing between wet and dry conditions. With dry periods extending later into the fall and winter, wildfires in the region are becoming more frequent and more intense, placing Southern Californians at heightened risk.

As efforts continue in California to contain the devastation of these wildfires, CAC has compiled the below resources for this week's #ClimateFriday newsletter and we encourage you to join us tomorrow in sharing resources to help those affected and to raise awareness of the link between the severity of these fires and climate change.

As always, please feel free to update the sample posts to reflect your/your organization's voice. You are also encouraged to reply to this email with any resources or posts you think others may find helpful.

Stay safe this weekend.

Sincerely,
Sarah and the CAC Team
