Hi all,

Our messaging has been updated. Climate Action Campaign member groups and partners are encouraged to share strong response statements to Donald Trump’s expected anti-environment Day 1 actions.

Below, please find some key points to include in your organization’s statement and social guidance. Please remember to reshape these messages to match your organizational voice. You can add your organization’s statement HERE. We are hoping to collect the bulk of statements in the next 48 hours.

President Trump’s Day One Executive Actions include:

  • Revoke Biden Executive Orders on climate and environmental justice including:

    • Executive Order 14008 of January 27, 2021 (Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad);

    • Executive Order 14096 of April 21, 2023 (Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All)

    • Executive Order 13990 of January 20, 2021 (Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science To Tackle the Climate Crisis);

  • Withdraw from Paris Climate Accord

Topline Message

President Trump’s Day 1 actions are an assault on our health, environment, economy and climate. His policies will raise energy prices for consumers and increase the climate pollution driving climate impacts such as the Los Angeles wildfires and extreme weather events like Hurricane Helene. His actions today put every American at risk, except for his billionaire energy company CEO buddies who stand to make billions in profit.

Messaging Points

General

  • People across the political spectrum voted to improve their lives and communities, to lower the costs of everyday goods and services, to have good-paying jobs, and to keep their families safe and healthy.

Trump’s actions will deliver none of those priorities for the American people. Instead, his actions move our country in the wrong direction.

  • The climate crisis is already responsible for higher prices of groceries and energy, catastrophic storms and deadly heat waves, and health harms from fossil fuel pollution. Rolling back climate progress will only make things worse.

  • We stand in strong opposition to Donald Trump’s anti-climate agenda. Our organizations will continue to stand strong for climate protections and will fight President Trump’s plans to harm our environment, health, economy, and climate.

For attacks on the health protections

  • People don’t want dirtier air, more asthma attacks, and sicker kids. But President Trump’s announcements attacking rules requiring automakers to reduce tailpipe pollution would mean just that.

For attacks on pollution protections

  • Nobody wants more superstorms, deadly wildfires, droughts, and floods, or to pay the billions of dollars these extreme weather events cost Americans. Yet President Trump’s plan to dismantle pollution protections and his decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement would do just that.

For attacks that raise costs on consumers

  • And they don’t want higher energy bills or to throw the brakes on the historic pace of clean energy job growth while the oil and gas industry maximizes its profits, but that’s exactly what President Trump’s promise to “drill, baby, drill” and his administration’s effort to undermine new offshore wind and appliance efficiency measures would do.

Attacks on environmental justice

  • All families deserve to grow up healthy, happy and safe from dangerous pollution, but Trump's plan to roll back environmental justice and community protections would take away critical investments and put communities of color and low-income people – who are already overburdened with pollution – at greater risk

For giveaways to Big Oil executives

  • President Trump promised giveaways to oil and gas CEOs and he’s doubling down. From the appointment of energy company CEOs to his cabinet to his obsession with eliminating clean energy, he’s abusing his authority, undermining the law, and putting polluters over people.

These actions will have profound consequences for our families and communities, including:

  • Compromising our health and safety

  • Increasing costs for all Americans

  • Leaving us more exposed to increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events.

And he’s doing this all to pay off the big oil and gas CEOs who helped fund his campaign..

Sample Social Guidance

Public Health Attacks

  • People don’t want dirtier air, more asthma attacks, and sicker kids. But President Trump’s actions today would make those nightmares a reality by bringing back more pollution.

Extreme Weather Rollbacks

  • Nobody wants more deadly wildfires and floods or to pay the billions of dollars these extreme weather events have cost Americans. Yet President Trump’s plan to dismantle pollution protections and pull us out of the Paris Agreement would make that a reality.

Increasing Costs

  • Nobody wants higher energy bills or to slam the brakes on the historic pace of the clean energy transition and its jobs. But the Trump agenda to “drill, baby, drill” will do just that while maximizing the profits of the oil and gas industry at our expense.

For attacks on the EPA

  • People don’t want dirtier air, more asthma attacks, and sicker kids. But President Trump’s actions to [undermine the EPA’s authority, roll back tailpipe and power plant pollution standards, slash staff/enforcement at EPA and/or CAA attack] would make those nightmares a reality.

For attacks on Solutions for Pollution

  • Nobody wants more superstorms, deadly wildfires, droughts, and floods, or to pay the billions of dollars these extreme weather events cost Americans. Yet President Trump’s plan to dismantle pollution protections, such as [LDV, power plants, methane, pulling out of Paris] would deliver those results.

For attacks on clean energy investments

  • Nobody wants higher energy bills or to slam the brakes on the historic pace of the clean energy transition and its jobs. But the Trump agenda to [rollback appliance efficiency expansion of drilling, repeal IRA] will do just that, while maximizing the profits of the oil and gas industry at our expense.
