LCV Statement on White House Pause of All Federal Grants

Washington, D.C.-- In response to the White House Office of Budget Management pausing all federal grants effective tomorrow, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Senior Government Affairs Advocate, David Shadburn:

“When Congress appropriates taxpayer money, the administration must spend it. Period. These actions will not only immediately harm families and communities, making lives harder and more expensive, but also go against the very foundations of our government where Congress has the power of the purse. This dangerously broad overreach directed by Project 2025 is an extreme power grab meant to instill chaos and will cause very real harm to people in every state. If President Trump, Stephen Miller, and Russell Vought truly cared about the American people, they would maintain federal aid, grants and loans that serve our communities. This aid must remain in place to ensure continued access to clean air and drinking water, protections for the environment, and safeguards for the health and safety of our communities.”

This reckless power grab is not only obviously unconstitutional—it’s deeply cruel and shortsighted.

Evergreen Statement on Trump’s Unconstitutional Federal Funding Freeze

In response to the Trump administration’s late night order to freeze “all federal financial assistance,” Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“In his fervor to pursue every far right policy fantasy outlined in Project 2025, Trump is showing us that he won’t hesitate to throw the constitution out the window and the American economy into chaos. This reckless power grab is not only obviously unconstitutional—it’s deeply cruel and shortsighted. Across the country millions of families, local governments, businesses, and community organizations count on federal grant funding to put food on the table, provide essential services, and safeguard the health and safety of our communities. While we believe this order cannot hold up in court, Trump’s willingness to pull the rug out from under the American people is a clear signal of the threat he poses to our constitutional system of government and our country’s ability to work together to solve big challenges like climate change.”
