There are 5 legislative days between now and the February 8 funding deadline.

>> If you say one thing today: In Trump’s America, it is open season for oil and gas drilling on public lands stolen from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments, with no mind to the damage that comes from selling out America’s future to greedy corporate polluters and special interests.

Government Funding

  • Nuts & Bolts:
    • CR vote expected in the House next week on CR until March 22
    • Freedom Caucus doesn't support yet
    • Dems haven't committed to carrying the water without a budget caps deal and immigration deal
    • Could be closer to caps deal
    • Details are trickling out about Trump FY19 budget

o

      • Will slash DOE's renewable energy and efficiency programs by 72 percent
      • WIll gut EPA Chemical Enforcement Board
  • Response:
    • Continue to push for:
      • Immigration deal that protects Dreamers and border communities/wildlife
      • These are fast moving talks -- keeping pushing for adequate funding for programs that protect children's health and our outdoors
    • Grasstops calls
      • Purpose | To reinforce the need for parity in a Raise the caps deal, and to continue promoting a final budget resolution free from poison pill riders and budget cuts to critical environmental programs.
      • Goal | 5 grasstop calls/week collectively from the groups

Shutdown Lessons Learned

  • Dems lost the meta narrative
    • >> We need to shout louder and place blame on the party that controls the government
  • The administration created confusion with keeping agencies open
    • Hard to push public health language
    • >> Had to adjust strategy to show chaos in the moment
  • Parks are still tangible example with reporters and create great hooks
    • Look for examples in real time
  • Important to identify and connect reporters to validating voices including local communities, former admin officials and alumni
  • We need to communicate with allies on the hill to make sure we are applying pressure in the most useful places
