The looming Omnibus is the main item of interest this week, but there are plenty of FY19 budget hearings and other activities as well.
House Floor Activity
- The House convenes at noon on Monday, with the usual
collection of suspension bills getting votes that evening.
- There are currently two bills scheduled for consideration under a rule, neither relating to environmental issues: H.R.
4566 and
4061, both on financial issues. H.R.
5247, on ‘right to try’ medicine, may also come up.
- Last, but not least, we
should see a House vote on the Omnibus later this week. House Republican leadership is reportedly briefing its rank-and-file over the course of the afternoon and evening, so we could see text of the bill Monday evening. A vote would be possible as early
as Tuesday, but more likely Wednesday.
House Committee Activity
- FY19 Budget hearings continue in the House this week, with quite a few scheduled:
- On
Tuesday at 10:30 AM the Economic Development/etc. subcommittee of Transportation and Infrastructure will be holding a hearing on “Impacts of the 2017 Wildfires in the United States.”
- On
Tuesday at 2 PM the Federal Lands subcommittee of Natural Resources will be holding a legislative hearing on H.R.
5210 and H.R.
2584, two bills relating to funding mechanisms for national park maintenance.
- On
Wednesday at 10:15 AM the Natural Resources committee will be marking up 4 bills: H.R.
3997,
4257,
5005, and
5269.
- On
Wednesday at 2 PM the National Security subcommittee of Oversight will be holding a hearing on “Bureaucratic Challenges to Hurricane Recovery in Puerto Rico.”
Senate Floor Activity
- The Senate convenes at 3 PM on Monday, with a confirmation vote on Kevin K. McAleenan at DHS scheduled for 5:30 PM. This will be followed by a cloture vote on
H.R. 1865, on online sex trafficking.
- The Senate will likely be ready to take up a House-passed Omnibus after the House passes something; votes on this would likely occur on Wednesday or Thursday… but depending on how
certain Senators behave, votes could occur later in the week.
Senate Committee Activity
- Not as many as in the House, but the Senate also has a few FY19 budget hearings scheduled for this week:
- On
Wednesday at 10 AM the Environment and Public Works committee will be holding an oversight hearing on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
- EPW may also be holding a markup this week, but as of yet nothing has been announced.
- On
Thursday at 10 AM the Oceans subcommittee of Commerce will be holding a hearing on “Enhancing the Marine Mammal Protection Act.”
- On
Thursday at 10 AM the Energy and Natural Resources committee will be holding a legislative hearing on several water infrastructure bills: S.
2539,
2560, and
2563.
