Please pardon the interruption and excuse any cross-postings. On Wednesday evening, at approximately 7:40 pm ET, a spam email from Inorbit Investments was accidentally posted to 17 lists that end in “groups.b-team.org.” I wanted to update you on how this happened because, as many of you know, only approved subscribers can post to these lists.

In short, as soon as I started receiving notifications that this email address was targeting our lists, I contacted the company that now hosts our lists, SimpleLists, and asked them to block the email address from spamming all of our lists and generating notifications for approval. Unfortunately, the company mistakenly configured the blocking parameters, which allowed the email to go through on 17 lists. While the company apologized for the oversight and corrected it immediately, many folks received the email, which luckily did not contain any malicious attachment.
