President Trump and Scott Pruitt Launch New Attack on Clean Air

In his latest attempt to gut the Clean Air Act, President Trump directed his embattled EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt, to loosen protections on six key air pollutants governed by the landmark environmental law.

• Yesterday, amid EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s mounting corruption scandals and ethics violations, President Trump issued an order that undermines the Clean Air Act and lets polluters off the hook.

• The dangerous move is another ethics-challenged policy from an ethics-challenged administration. Gutting the Clean Air Act and allowing more pollution in our air undermines the EPA’s mission and threatens American lives.

• Vulnerable groups like the elderly, children, and communities of color already suffer disproportionally from the harmful effects of pollution and climate change. This order will make it even harder for them to breathe.

• Pruitt and Trump have been unable to clear the air over the eleven federal investigations into Pruitt’s unethical behavior and abuse of taxpayer funds. Now they’re polluting the air for the rest of us.

• Americans deserve better – we need an EPA administrator who is committed to protecting our health, our environment, and our economy from climate change and dangerous pollution. Instead, we have Scott Pruitt, who is mired in an ethical swamp of his own making and is jeopardizing our health by granting favors to the very corporate polluters he’s supposed to oversee.
