In a Surprise to Nobody,

Ryan’s Trump Plan 2.0 Fails in the House

Washington, DC – After last week’s defeat of the #Badlatte immigration bill last week, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan introduced a bill today that’s alternately been dubbed the “Trump Plan 2.0” because is would have used the crisis created by Trump’s anti-immigrant actions to make conditions even WORSE for immigrants. . Regardless of the moniker, Paul Ryan’s Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018 went down in flames today in a 121-301 vote.

Sanaa Abrar, Policy and Advocacy Manager, United We Dream says:

“The only acceptable outcome for this piece of legislation was spectacular failure.

he bill would have provided billions more in funding for the deportation force to build more detention centers, incarcerate more immigrants, and continue to cruelly and remorselessly tear children away from their families.

The “moderate” Republicans who voted for this bill should be ashamed. As the world sees the dangers of the deportation force, they voted to hurt immigrants even more.

There was neither humanity nor decent policy for immigrants in this bill. The whole world has seen it - we urgently need Congress to defund the deportation forces now!”
