• Republican leadership is headed to the White House today to talk to Trump about the government funding deadline

Dirty Budget Fight 

• There are 10 legislative days to fund the government. Republicans have expressed the desire to pass as many minibus packages to avoid a full CR on 9/30. We do expect at least partial CRs to continue past the election. 
• Energy and water conferees are meeting today but still seem far from an agreement. There is still contention over riders, especially the Salmon Extinction rider.
• Energy and Water conference will be the first test to see if Senators can actually keep poison pill riders out of the final package. If they fail, then we face a much more difficult challenge with the remaining bills like Interior-Environment. 
• September goals:
  • Pass bills free of harmful riders and budget cuts 
  • Support leadership 
  • Sure up support from moderates 
  • Flip R opposition and support our cause 
• Major asks:
  • Participate in Tuesday/Thursday social media days of action starting TOMORROW (9/6)
  • Urge targets to stand strong against cuts and riders (updated #dirtybudget toolkit to be circulated today)
