Senators and National Puerto Rican Leaders Commemorate One Year Anniversary of Hurricane Maria and Announce Week of National Observances
Washington, DC — On Tuesday, September 18, Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Senate colleagues will join the American Federation of Teachers, Hispanic Federation, and the Power 4 Puerto Rico coalition and families who remain displaced in the mainland after Hurricane María to mark the upcoming one year anniversary since Hurricane Maria made landfall on the island of Puerto Rico. Speakers will call for a full accounting of the government’s response to one of the the worst natural disasters in U.S. history and share their vision for Puerto Rico’s long-term rebuilding. Coalition member will also announce a series of activities and vigils taking place around the nation to honor the victims of Hurricane Maria in New York, West Palm Beach, Puerto Rico and many other regions.
