Subject: [SaveSCOTUS] Suggested Talking Points
Please find below our suggested TPs for the latest.
As a reminder, our chief counsel, Mike Zubrensky, had a recentPolitico piece and
medium post that should also be of interest.
Key Points
- On Friday, there was bipartisan agreement that the FBI must investigate the serious allegations against Brett Kavanaugh.
-
Senators Flake and Coons were the architects of the FBI breakthrough. At Friday’s Senate Judiciary Committee meeting, Senator Flake said the FBI investigation should be “limited in time and
scope to the current allegations that are there,” and Senator Coons followed up to say the FBI investigation should be “for the purpose of investigating further either allegations made by Dr. Ford or others.”
- We believe Dr. Blasey Ford. We believe Deborah Ramirez. We believe Julie Swetnick. We believe survivors of sexual assault -- and we have their backs.
- As these brave survivors have all requested, a full, independent, and thorough FBI investigation must take place
to get to the bottom of these extremely serious, deeply concerning, and credible allegations. That is the only way forward, and Trump has finally listened.
- This request for investigation is supported by both sides of the aisle.Unlike the partisan Committee staff, the FBI has the trained
professionals. The FBI can now conduct a complete and impartial investigation into all current allegations. This was done for Anita Hill before she testified in 1991.
- This is Brett Kavanaugh’s job interview for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Brett Kavanaugh’s repeated lies,
half-truths, and misdirection, including while under oath, have destroyed his credibility.
On Background Investigations:
- The FBI investigation must include interviews with Mark Judge and all other witnesses who were allegedly present
during these credible sexual assault claims, including those named by Dr. Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick.
- Additionally, the FBI should conduct interviews with additional witnesses to corroborate the testimonies of those
with allegations.
- This is not a criminal investigation and this report is not expected to be made public. We hope that Senators
will take the FBI’s report seriously as they consider Kavanaugh for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.
