President Trump and Congress Should Do the Right Thing—Pass a Clean DREAM Act Now

WASHINGTON, DC (February 16, 2018) – In response to the U.S. Senate’s failure to advance a bipartisan proposal to protect Dreamers, Martin Hayden, Vice President of Policy and Legislation at Earthjustice, issued the following statement:

“President Trump’s political maneuver failed today. He created a mess by ending DACA and then tried to use Dreamers as tokens to build his dangerous and wasteful border wall that would devastate the health and safety of border community as well as the environment they depend on. Time and time again, as he continued to play politics with the lives of 800,000 dreamers, he sabotaged the DREAM Act by demanding further border militarization and more.

“Most importantly in all of this is that Dreamers, who are as much a part of our great country as any fellow American, continue to live in limbo because President Trump put them there and Republicans in Congress fail to show real commitment to passing a clean DREAM Act. While today the Senate failed to ensure Dreamers a solution, we continue to stand with Dreamers and communities across America in calling on Congress and President Trump to do the right thing: pass a clean Dream Act now.”
